Great Year

2008 turned out to be a great year! It didn't start off so hot with my left ankle injury that kept me from running for over 3 months. But I came back and completed four 5k races and my big accomplishment of 2008, the Wild Dog Sprint Tri!!!! The Triathlon was a highlight for 2008. But the birth of Nicholas was definitely THE highlight of 2008. That little guy is so awesome. I was also fortunate enough to find a new job closer to home and it was great to find out that some of the people I work with run!

2009 will be another great year. I will be focusing more on my sprint triathlons then 5Ks and will be attempting to complete my first Olympic distance tri in August and my first Half Marathon in October.

Can't wait for the new year!!

Running

I went out for a 35 min run today. I wanted to go easy since I did 42 minutes the other day with some hill repeats. So my splits were normal...first mile 10:07, second mile 10:17 and third mile 10:09. I felt really good during the 3rd mile so I decide to add another mile...and kicked it up a notch... 4th mile 9:11. After the last mile I started thinking that I am holding myself back alittle. The running mentle games have started. I have been so used to running 3 miles...that I don't think I can handle 4 miles or if I do I will injure myself or something crazy. I think today's 4 mile run, and last weeks 3.96 mile run with my last .96 mile came in 9:07...I am going to increase my runs to 40 mins from now on. These past 2 weeks have really given me the extra encouragement I need to continue with my 10k training. Oh yeah...I got caught in the rain again today. When I left work the radar did not show rain, and half way through the run it started to rain. I could have really used some Drymax socks. I might just have to find me a pair of those.

Swim

Hit the pool last night. Did 850 meters in about 20 mins. This is part of my new training program I have been putting together for weeks now. The first few months is run focused since I have my first 10k race coming up in February. After that the focus will switch to bike and swim. I am really excited about this program. I looked online for all the sprint and Oly training programs and just took what I thought would help me to my goal. Then I set it up so it really does not interfere with home and the family to much. Today I have a 30 min bike and tomorrow will be a 40 min run. I have started training by time and not distance. I figured...if I run 30 mins...I kinda know I would have ran 3 miles. I need to set my Garmin up for time and pace and get rid of distance.

I am having the same ankle problem that I had back in May, it takes about 2 miles for my left ankle to loosens up. Its really annoying. It took about a month for it to go away. but, I guess I will just live with it.
